hikarunogoOkay, Very has encouraged me to make this post, so... here it is. If you're not at all interested in Sims, feel free to skip over this. I won't be offended, I swear. ;) Anyway, blame her for this. XD
So I enjoy Sims quite a bit, as probably anybody who's on my flist can tell you. The thing is, I don't generally play myself or people I know- I'll either make up someone totally random, or I'll base my sims off of characters. I've had Hikaru and Akira for a while now that I don't play nearly enough, and a Mitani and Kaneko pair that I absolutely adore (they have two kids now). During a Sims conversation with Very, I realized that I didn't have anybody else, though. This, obviously, needed to be fixed. It's slow going, because my laptop wasn't exactly top of the line when I bought it five years ago, and running the Sims kind of makes it hate me. But I've got several characters now, and I'm apparently obligated to share/discuss them with you all. :P Be warned that this is VERY long, so I will put everything under a series of cuts here.
Things to keep in mind:
1. For those not that familiar with the Sims 3- each adult Sim gets a maximum of five personality traits that you can choose from a list. Those traits have specific meanings to the Sim in question, and I'll give you guys links to find out more about the traits. You also choose a "lifetime wish" for them- something for them to strive for over the course of their life- and some random favorites like food and color.
2. As much as you can do with Sims, there are also a lot of limitations in both looks and traits. I'll talk about some of those as we go through, but it's important to remember that there are certain things I just can't make happen- Hikaru's hair, for example. There are some traits where something else would be better, but that something doesn't exist as an option.
3. I'm sort of lazy when it comes to how they look and sound. I go more for a general feel than specifics- partially because getting a real 3D face from an anime character is extremely difficult. I'm also not too terribly picky about the voice and clothes, even though I try not to go TOO out of left field with that stuff, either.
4. I also try, regardless of the Sim, to give them a balance of traits- meaning, no one is all good or all bad, and neither are the Sims. I make sure that they have one or two "negative" traits if they're generally a decent person, and the opposite is also true.
5. As far as things like lifetime wishes and favorites are concerned, I just kind of had to fill in the blanks with my own characterizations. You may or may not agree. I made sure to look up everyone's birthdays, so the astrological signs SHOULD be accurate as far as I know.
6. I tried very hard to not use downloadable content when I made these guys, though I did sometimes play with colors, particularly with Hikaru and Akira. Note that besides the main game, I have the expansions World Adventures, High End Loft Stuff, Ambitions, Fast Lane Stuff, and Late Night (I know, I know, I'm terribly behind). So if you don't have one of these- particularly Late Night and World Adventures, I think- it's definitely something to keep in mind should you choose to download these guys.
7. On that note, I'll be including links to download each of the Sims I'm posting about. Feel free to take them and change them however you please. I certainly haven't done anything that anybody with a little bit of time couldn't, so no need to credit me or anything if you use them and post about them or whatever. That being said, if you alter them, I would love to see them! :D
8. So I'm not claiming these guys are perfect in the slightest, and there are some that I'll probably continue to mess with. I just try to make choices that make sense to me for each character as an individual. Part of the reason for this post is to get input from people and have a discussion, whether it's to agree with choices I've made or to disagree.
Hikaru (Young Adult)
Traits: Absent-Minded, Adventurous, Athletic, Charismatic, Childish
Lifetime Wish: Chess Legend (Master the Logic Skill and Become a Grand Master in Chess)
Sign/Favorite Food/Favorite Music/Favorite Color: Virgo/Mac & Cheese/Pop/Yellow
Now, some of these choices may seem odd, but let me explain. First- Go doesn't exist in the Sims, unfortunately. The closest thing is Chess, so that's why that was done. Also, ramen is not available as a favorite food, so again, I picked what is arguably the closest thing in the game. I wish that the hair didn't suck so badly, but with the way Sims 3 customization works, well, there's just not really anything I can do about it.

Traits: Ambitious, Bookworm, Genius, Loner, Neat
Lifetime Wish: Chess Legend (Master the Logic Skill and Become a Grand Master in Chess)
Sign/Favorite Food/Favorite Music/Favorite Color: Sagittarius/Sushi/Classical/Purple
Okay, so I know that people are probably having a conniption because of the hair. There's no pageboy cut available, so that part's not my fault. The color... I get the argument, I really do, but here's the thing- as a fan of the anime first, this is what I default to for Akira. *shrug* Again, you may agree or not, but I made choices that made sense to me in my own head.
Kaga (Young Adult)
I love Kaga to bits. I really do. And I feel like I have a pretty good grasp of his character, but even with this, Kaga was actually EXTREMELY hard, not just for looks but for personality as well. There were several options here and I think there are a lot of traits you could give him that could be believable, you know? But what I ended up with was:
Traits: Charasmatic, Daredevil, Flirty, Hot-Headed, Great Kisser
Lifetime Wish: Master Mixologist (Own a Bar and Master Mixology Skill)
Sign/Favorite Food/Favorite Music/Favorite Color: Capricorn/Hamburger/Electronica/Red
Okay, so I think the traits speak for themselves (though if there was an "arrogant" trait, I would SO have picked that over great kisser, but that's a whole other thing), but the lifetime wish probably needs to be explained. I didn't want to have everyone want to be a Chess Legend, because that would be boring (on that note, keep that in mind- there are some random lifetime wishes in this post). Not that Kaga wants to be a Chess Legend anyway, but nevermind. My justification for this is that I can totally see Kaga being a bartender, giving out free shots to all the cute boys and girls. You know? As far as the favorites go... I know Electronica is kind of random, but I didn't really feel like anything there fit (I see Kaga as more of a metal fan, to be totally honest). So it was kind of a "the lesser of the evils" situation there. Also, you can't tell in the picture, but he has a skull tattoo on his right shoulder. It seemed appropriate. As far as the look... yeesh. I don't even want to talk about that.
Tsutsui (Young Adult)
Traits: Bookworm, Computer Whiz, Excitable, Neurotic, Shy
Lifetime Wish: Become a Creature-Robot Cross Breeder (Reach Level 9 in the Science Career Track)
Sign/Favorite Food/Favorite Music/Favorite Color: Taurus/Stir-fry/Classical/Grey
As hard as Kaga was, Tsutsui was the exact opposite- very, very easy. He's less complicated, I think. I don't feel like my choices require a whole lot of explaining here, so let's move on, shall we? :P
Isumi (Young Adult)
Traits: Easily Impressed, Family Oriented, Friendly, Good, Unlucky
Lifetime Wish: Seasoned Traveler (Reach Max Visa Level For All 3 Destinations)
Sign/Favorite Food/Favorite Music/Favorite Color: Aries/Sushi/Pop/Blue
Isumi was actually pretty easy too, and out of everyone, I think he's the one I'm the happiest with, physically. The traits are kind of meh to me. Waya's face was a pain in the ass- I still hate the way he looks. He's way too pretty boy twink for my liking, but whatever. His traits, however, were extremely easy to pick out, as was the lifetime wish. Waya is a social guy, and he thrives off of his friendships, so it stands to reason that he would want to be friends with lots of people.

Traits: Ambitious, Family Oriented, Hopeless Romantic, Natural Cook, Over-Emotional

The thing that was really difficult about Akari is that we really don't know that much about her as a person, so most of this is just guesswork from the clues we were given in canon. I will admit that "over-emotional" doesn't really seem fair, but like with Isumi, I wasn't really finding a negative trait that felt right, and this was the closest. Sorry, Akari. As far as the cooking... she did make food for Hikaru in middle school, didn't she? I wanted to give her something real to go for besides a guy, like she was starting to do by forming a Go club at her high school all by herself. :D

Traits: Ambitious, Athletic, Can't Stand Art, Good Sense of Humor, Heavy Sleeper
Lifetime Wish: Become an Astronaut (Dogfight your way to the top of the pack to become an Astronaut in the Military Career)

It's been a while since I made her, so I don't remember why I chose the military career over the athletic track, but I feel like either would work, really, amongst other options. And the "can't stand art"... was another victim of me not knowing what else to pick for a negative trait. Also, side note- the "heavy sleeper" trait really isn't negative for her, but it is for her partner. Remember how I said that my Kaneko/Mitani sims have 2 kids? Yeah, well. Her heavy sleeper trait means that it's Mitani who always gets up to feed/change/play with the baby, because she NEVER wakes up. Poor guy never gets any sleep. XD
Mitani (Young Adult)
Traits: Brave, Computer Whiz, Great Kisser, Hot-Headed, Loner
Lifetime Wish: Living in the Lap of Luxury (Have Household Net Worth of 100,000 Simoleons)
Sign/Favorite Food/Favorite Music/Favorite Color: Libra/Sushi/Electronica/Red
There weren't any hair options for Mitani that I was in the slightest bit happy with, so I just gave him a super short cut. Done. The brave trait can be argued, and it's true that he's lazy and most of the time can't be bothered. But rile him up, and he'll go into a situation guns blazing. ^_^ And the computer whiz... well, that just goes with some silly head-canon of mine, really.
Kouyo (Adult)
Traits: Disciplined, Genius, Never Nude, Perceptive, Perfectionist
Lifetime Wish: Great Explorer (Fully Explore 6 Tombs in Each Location)
Sign/Favorite Food/Favorite Music/Favorite Color: Leo/Dim Sum/Chinese/Spice Brown
I debated for a while whether to make Kouyo an Adult or an Elder, because he's not a young man when Akira is a teenager, so.... but in the end, he just didn't look right as an Elder, so. Adult it is. I think what annoys me the most when it comes to him is that there's a real lack of traditional Asian clothing options. There are a couple, but that's about it. So I did the best I could on the clothing score. Also, because someone's probably going to mention it... the Never Nude trait was mainly because it amused the hell out of me, not gonna lie (also, again, couldn't come up with anything else as a negative).
Ogata (Adult)
Traits: Dislikes Children, Flirty, Inappropriate, Snob, Workaholic
Lifetime Wish: Heartbreaker (Be the Boyfriend of 10 Different Sims)

There are actually several of the lifetime wishes that would work, beyond chess, I just picked one of them. As far as looks... eh, I feel like he looks more likeCraig David Daniel Craig (I knew that name didn't look right. Wooooow. Whoops) than Ogata, but whatever. Something interesting happened when I was making this Sim, though. When I make Sims, typically what I'll do is I'll take one of the default ones from the bin, whichever I feel is closest to what I want as far as facial features go, and alter them from there. The one I chose? Was wearing a white suit by default as his casual wear. When I flipped it over to formal wear, it was... a different white suit. Go figure.
Sai (Adult)
Traits: Coward, Dramatic, Excitable, Genius, Childish
Lifetime Wish: Chess Legend (Master the Logic Skill and Become a Grand Master in Chess)

No appropriate hat for Sai, unfortunately. Like with Kouyo, clothing options were extremely limited, so... I did what I could with that. For other stuff... I know I said I didn't want everyone having the Chess Legend wish, but it wouldn't be right if Sai didn't have it. You know? Also, my thinking with the spaghetti was that it's the closest thing to soba, and I was kind of sick of giving everyone sushi or stir-fry as a default. Sai doesn't have a canon birthday, so I just made him a Pisces because that's what makes sense to me. *shrug*
Aaaand here is the download link for the Sims if you want them. I was going to do individual files, bu I've been dealing with this post for hours now and I'm tired, so they are all in a zip file together. XD

(Edit #2- I know that probably whoever's going to download this has already, but just a heads up- if you have other expansion packs, it may mess with the clothes on the sims. I just purchased some ep's, and I went in to go play a Sim I had saved and discovered that I basically had to redo the clothing completely because it had all been changed. *sigh* So that's something to keep in mind- make sure you double-check EVERYTHING in create-a-sim before using, just in case. Sorry about that, guys. I was unaware of the problem before. ^_^; )
(Edit #3- Apparently I'm just going to keep poking at this. As far as downloadable content goes, I've found these: Sai's hat, Yukata for men 1 and 2, the closest thing to Akira's hair as I've ever found, and same thing for Mitani's hair. You -do- need an account to download the stuff from thesimsresource but it won't cost you anything to make the account and everything I've linked is a free download. Also, they have some really gorgeous accessories and stuff in general, so I think it's worth a look. ^^ )

Also, my thinking with the spaghetti was that it's the closest thing to soba, and I was kind of sick of giving everyone sushi or stir-fry as a default. Sai doesn't have a canon birthday, so I just made him a Pisces because that's what makes sense to me. *shrug*
Aaaand here is the download link for the Sims if you want them. I was going to do individual files, bu I've been dealing with this post for hours now and I'm tired, so they are all in a zip file together. XD

(Edit #2- I know that probably whoever's going to download this has already, but just a heads up- if you have other expansion packs, it may mess with the clothes on the sims. I just purchased some ep's, and I went in to go play a Sim I had saved and discovered that I basically had to redo the clothing completely because it had all been changed. *sigh* So that's something to keep in mind- make sure you double-check EVERYTHING in create-a-sim before using, just in case. Sorry about that, guys. I was unaware of the problem before. ^_^; )
(Edit #3- Apparently I'm just going to keep poking at this. As far as downloadable content goes, I've found these: Sai's hat, Yukata for men 1 and 2, the closest thing to Akira's hair as I've ever found, and same thing for Mitani's hair. You -do- need an account to download the stuff from thesimsresource but it won't cost you anything to make the account and everything I've linked is a free download. Also, they have some really gorgeous accessories and stuff in general, so I think it's worth a look. ^^ )
