A friend from uni gave it to me, with a bunch of other stuff and said it was really good (along with all the other stuff). After I had worked my way through a lot of it, I remembered that a lot of people I knew in tenipuri fandom said it was good, so I read it all and enjoyed it.

Uh, I suppose that it is a really good show. Not just fun, but genuinely well written.

I have to second Hikaru finding Sai in his go.

Bleach. I would really like to see all the swords and bankais for the characters.

Oh, wow, uh. Ok, I am really not that interested in Isumi on his own. I like him together with other people, like Shindou and Waya and Le Ping. But just him. A bit boring.
8- Do you have any favorite platonic relationships?
Akira and his dad. I find it so utterly rare to have a parent/child relationship in shounen anime which is genuinely positive and loving and where no one is dead. Touya senior is just so absolutely proud of his son and actually says so and I find it adorable!
9- if you could spend a day with a character of your choice, who would it be?
Probably Morishita sensei’s kids because they wouldn’t make me play go. I suck at go.
10- the character that is most like you/that you can relate to the most:
Most like me? Heh, probably le Ping.
11- the most touching scene:
Well this is going to sound really weird, and I don’t know if touching is the right word, but: One of the scenes that really get to me in the manga is that one chapter with Akira just before he met Hikaru. When he plays that child mejin. There is a scene when mini-Akira comes in and hands Ichikawa his bag and another patron is shocked that it is so clean and unscratched. And then he is so happy that there is someone his age there to play. That whole part kills me. Don’t get me wrong, I really don’t think Akira has had a bad childhood or was forced in to go or anything. I do think he loves go and chose to dedicate himself to study it. But that whole part with this twelve year old sitting alone with his unscratched bag breaks my heart. And I get in such a good mood when we get to see him and Shindou yelling at each other at the top of their lungs because if anyone needs some yelling it is Touya Akira.

Waya and Akira. I don’t know, I just think they have the potential to interact beautifully.

Waya and Le Ping!
14- What are some fics you'd like to see?
You know, I’ll take almost any fics, I just want more of them! I feel utter envy when I see the fic count in for example HP fandom.
15- What are some of your favorite pairings and why?
Actually I am pretty open about ships. My main love will probably always be Hikaru/Akira. I do have a hard time watching the show without seeing parts of like a shojo romance even if it wasn’t meant that way. Fandom has dragged me in to the Ko/Yashiro camp. (Side note, I wonder about the whole “chibi” thing. Where did that come from? Did it just spontaneously appear in fanon?) Kaneko/Mitani, Saeki/Ashiwara, Iijima/Nase.
16- what made you start watching/reading Hikaru no Go:
I was just on a shounen high a few years ago and Hikaru no go was on a lot of the same rec lists as Naruto and Hunter x Hunter and Bleach. I fell out of anime fandom a few years, but a couple of months ago I stumbled over my old manga, started rereading it and thought “Hey, I forgot how good this is”. I actually loved it more this time around.
17- your favourite arc:
I really do not have one. I love them all.
18- your favourite aspect of Hikaru no Go:
Well I genuinely love that it is a show that on the surface seem to be such an ordinary shounen show, but when you start to watch it, it is really this well thought-out story about purpose and growing up. And also that it has this fantastic cast of characters. (But I must admit that there is this incredibly fangirly part of me, which I should have outgrown years ago that simply go “Eternal rivals, LOL!)
19- your favourite character design:
I think that’s hard. I think they complement each other. Maybe older Hikaru?
20- your favourite crack ship:
That depends on how you define a crack ship. I have always been a bit uncertain on that definition. Is it a ship that is insanely improbable, or is it a ship that is both improbable and funny?
21- your favourite female character:
Nase (Kaneko is a close second)
22- your favourite friendship:
Hikaru and Waya, and Hikaru and Akira (if you can define that as a friendship and not EPIC RIVALRY in capital letter). Oh and Mitani and Kaneko. Ok, so I know I should stick to one answer, but I really can’t.
23- your favourite male character:
Touya Akira.
24- your favourite minor character:
Well, this is a bit odd maybe, but Hidaka Yuri. That girl sempai from Kaio. I thought she was awesome. (another character that I wish could get some more space)
25- your favourite quote
I really like the repetition of “Can you hear me? Can you hear my voice?” at the beginning and end of the show.
26- your least favourite character:
That is really hard, because I don’t dislike any character. The ones I find most uninteresting by themselves is probably … Akari and Isumi I think (with is a bit unfair, because all character mostly get interesting on the basis of how they interact with others). It is just such a great cast that you get down to nitpicks on this kind of question.

4) A popular opinion about any aspect of Hikaru no Go? Ashiwara is too nice. XD Also, the series has remarkably nice pacing and flows so well that you hardly recognize the transition from chubby kidlets to lean young men.
5) A scene that made you actually cry: In the anime, when Hikaru discovers Sai is gone. There was a slight wetness to my eyes. But nothing made me bawl.
6) A series you’d like to cross Hikaru no Go over with: xxxHoLiC. (Ignore the fact that I've already done it.)
7) An unpopular opinion about any aspect of Hikaru no Go: Isumi is boring. Seriously.
8) Do you have any favorite platonic relationships? Hikaru and Akari, Waya and Isumi, Su-yeong and Yashiro, Su-yeong and Yeong-ha.
9) If you could spend a day with a character of your choice,
who would it be? Probably Akiko. I always feel like an outsider (in real life, in fandom), and Akiko lives it. But she seems completely at peace with it. It would interesting to see what her life is like, because we know so much about her son's and husband's.
10) The character that is most like you/that you can relate to the most: Yashiro, although I fortunately do not have the parental issue. Everything else though? The touchy personality, the feeling of inadequacy that you ignore to prove everyone else wrong? That's me to a T.
11) The most touching scene: For me, it's a tie. Hikaru inviting Akari over for a game is wonderful because at that point, the impression I get from the manga and the anime is that they're friendship is strained. My best friend is a guy, and I know what that strain is like (especially when one party is in love with the other), so to see him reach out like that made my little heart glow. The second scene is Hikaru's dream with Sai, and I think that's pretty self-explanatory.
12) Two characters you wish would interact more with each other: Saeki and Ashiwara. It's clear that there's something there (even if it is just friendship), but the actual interaction between them is one scene. =/
13) Two characters you wish would meet: Ashiwara and Tsubaki-san. They both seem like fun, in completely different ways.
14) What are some fics you'd like to see? I'd like to see more character-related pieces and less pairing fic. Or, at least, more fics that focus on the individual rather than the pairing. I've seen great fics (mostly in other fandoms) where the relationships are present, but they're not the point. I would love to see more fic like that in fandom.
15) What are some of your favorite pairings and why? I adore Saeki/Ashiwara, Yeong-ha/Yashiro, and Akari/Honda. For Saeki/Ashiwara, it's just... kind of obvious? I mean, in two different scenes, they are wearing the exact same turtleneck. When I noticed that, my little brain started putting together a fic about it (which never actually got written, but). Mostly, with them, it's comfortable (once you get passed Saeki's initial resistance). They fit, in my head.
Yeong-ha/Yashiro is close to my heart because of the characterizations. XD;; Maaya and I started populating the fandom with this pairing, and since they have such little character development, it allowed us to experiment with personalities util we found ones that clicked. Hilariously, the way that they're characterized when together is remarkably close to how Maaya and I act together in real life. ♥
Akari/Honda is sweet (and no, there are no fics, this is a pet pairing of mine right now, and yes, I am writing something). I WILL CONVERT YOU ALL.
16) What made you start watching/reading Hikaru no Go: Maaya rec'd it to me. She really wanted someone to squee about Yeong-ha with. XD
17) Your favourite arc: Hokuto Hai, hands down.
18) Your favourite aspect of Hikaru no Go: Finding inner strength. For so long, Hikaru relies upon Sai, but by the end, not only does Hikaru come to terms with Sai's disappearance, but his Go grows from it, as well.
19) Your favourite character design: I love Akiko's character design. It's just elegant and the lines flow well.
20) Your favourite crack ship: Does Yeong-ha/Yashiro count as a crack ship? No? Then platonic!Kuwabara/Ogata.
21) Your favourite female character: Akari and Akiko.
22) Your favourite friendship: I really adore the friendship between Su-yeong and Yeong-ha. I'm also quite fond of the friendship between Ashiwara and Akira.
23) Your favourite male character: Honestly? Ashiwara. He intrigues me the most out of everyone.
24) Your favourite minor character: Can I really only pick one? Ashiwara and Yashiro.
25) Your favourite quote: I can't remember it word for word, but when Hikaru comes rushing into the Ki'in, looking for Touya (after Hikaru's disappearance and whatnot), and Kuwabara asks him, "Looking for your rival?" After Hikaru takes off for the elevator, Kuwabara goes into a mini monologue, talking about how you can't play go alone. For some reason, that scene always sticks with me.
26) Your least favourite character: You know, I don't have a 'least favorite character,' but I do have a character I am ambivalent towards, and that would be Isumi. Isumi is just... bland. He's too much of a goody goody, and the only real development I see in him is his go. =/ His personality remains the same throughout, as far as I'm concerned.

Tsutsui! Kaga and Mitani both got one, yet Tsutsui is the only charachter - barring Akira and Hikaru's mum - who is there both in the beginning and the end.

I'm uninspired and will just say Honey and Clover because God only knows Yuta and the gang needs to meet someone who could set them straight and explain that THE MEANING OF LIFE IS TO PLAY GO. Or Kyo Kara Maoh (Go boy versus baseball boy!). Clearly, anything involving Yuri Lowenthal would do.

I think the Hokuto Arc is the key to the entire story and that the anime, lacking it, is somewhat lacking in essence.

Hikaru and Sai.

Ashiwara seems easy to get along with.

Waya, in all his insecurities and jealousies.

Waya passes the pro test. Made all the worse by how utterly heart-wrenching it really is.

Ashiwara and Saeki, who should've had their own spin-off.

Fic that explore all those friendships that people usually forget amidst all the shipping, like any combination of Hikaru-Akari-Mitani-Tsutsui, Akira-Ashiwara, Waya-Ochi, Hikaru-fifty-something go players, Akira-fifty something go players, Akira-Ichikawa, Isumi-Yang Hai.

Waya/Isumi is really the only regularly seen pairing that I particularly care for, but I'd really like to see pairings like Hikaru/Other People Than Akira and Akira/Other People Than Hikaru. Like Hikaru/Waya or Hikaru/Mitani or Akira/Waya. Particularly the last one.

I wanted to know how a comic about a board game could be entertaining.

I really like the run-up to the Hokuto cup, and I really like the Haze Junior High Go Club in their glory days.

Isumi losing to Hikaru, sitting outside, waiting for people to call him, but no one does, which means he's #4 in the insei exams. And then it rains. And I cry every single time. (Without getting into too much detail, I have been in those shoes.)

This might be weird, but I would LOVE to see Hikago crossed with Ghost Trick.

Akira and Hikaru! ^_^ Hikaru and Sai, too. I also love the way Tsutsui and Kaga interact on a gen/platonic level.

KURATA. *_* You can tell he would be a lot of fun to spend a day with.

I would love to see Ogata and Kurata interacting more.

I feel like that judge, who, when asked what porn was, said, "I know it when I see it." I don't know what I'd like to see, but I'll know it when I read it.

Ogata/Isumi, for the mutual thirst I see in them. They're not alike, no, but they are VERY complementary.
Mitani/Kaneko, because come on--it's SO OBVIOUS. That one gets my vote for Most Likely To Still Be Together At Age 100.
Waya/Shigeko, because you just know Morishita-sensei is going to pass on the baton to Waya, and give him his daughter in the bargain. I support the theory that Shigeko manipulates her father into it.
Iijima/Nase, even though I just know that's not going to end well. Too one-sided (Iijima cares too much and takes himself too seriously.)

I actually don't know! I can't recall what got me into Hikago. Maybe it was

Isumi in China. (I don't think this surprises anyone.)
18 - your favourite aspect of Hikaru no Go:
Everyone works so hard, but not everyone makes it. Hikaru no Go doesn't sweep that aspect under the carpet. Yes, there are superstars like Akira and Hikaru, but everyone else is portrayed as working hard, putting in time, striving to develop themselves. And it's all so real! You have people who devote their lives even though they have no skill (Amano). You have people who burned brightly in their youth and then fizzled out (Kishimoto). You have people who realize they can't take on the Big Guns (tm) but find their niche elsewhere (Shinoda). You have the resigned-to-be-amateurs like Kawai. The never-say-nevers like Tsubaki. And so on. (I like to draw paralells between playing go and writing. And yes, you need a rival when writing, too.)

Kurata! Rounded, jolly, serious, popular, and he is somehow so incredibly appealing.

I am so torn. I like so many of them for so many reasons. I identify most with Isumi, but I love Ogata, Yang Hai, Touya Kouyou, Shinoda-sensei, Sai, etc...

How minor does a character have to be, to be considered a minor character? Does Yang Hai count?

i guess that's probably Ogata. at first, i really disliked him, but i've come around to finding him quite interesting.

well, i can't say Isumi because he got a whole arc to himself, so... i think i'll go with Nase. or Ashiwara. or Saeki. they're all characters that aren't fleshed out enough in canon, so they're ripe for fic, too. oh, and Kishimoto, too!

i've already crossed it with Prince of Tennis (though i still believe Tezuka and Kishismoto are cousins...) and KKM, but... any school-based series would work. also, i'm thinking Sangatsu no Lion (March Comes in Like a Lion) would be good. shogi players and go players, or even maybe something with Kaga...

ummmm... i'm not really sure... i find Touya (Akira) a lot more flawed than most of fandom, i think...

let's see... Hikaru and Akari... Hikaru and Waya... Hikaru and Isumi... (Hikaru makes friends easily!) even Hikaru and Kurata! and Touya Kouyo and Morishita.

Isumi. but i have no idea what we would do.

three-way tie... the moment Hikaru realizes Sai is gone / the moment Hikaru realizes that Sai is with him, in his go / the dream where Sai passes off his fan. yeah, nothing shocking there, the climax arc of the series. ^_~

Saeki and Ashiwara. just, so much fun, anytime they do.

isumi/waya - because isumi is my favorite character, and waya loves him like i do, ha.
ashiwara/saeki - because... they are so different, and somehow, Ashiwara can rattle Saeki, who is otherwise shown to be so cool
akari/mitani - i just... i feel like, even before akari has totally gotten over hikaru, she's already become focused on mitani, and he's probably jealous of hikaru for more than one reason.
16 - what made you start watching/reading Hikaru no Go:
i don't even remember who it was, but there were several people on my flist who had watched it. i had trouble d/ling it wayyyyy back in the day, though. i remember being afraid because the place i was sloooooowly downloading from was taking down episodes, and i thought i'd not be able to get it.
17 - your favourite arc:
god, so many. but i love isumi coming back from china and the whole hikaru is missing sai so he retreats from go thing. leading up the climax, isumi drawing hikaru's go back out.
18 - your favourite aspect of Hikaru no Go:
the great, great characterizations. everyone is so well-developed, even characters you dislike, you end up seeing good things about them. (except, well, the Bad Guys that sai and hikaru take down from time to time...)

sorry, i'm shallow. when it comes to character design, i definitely have to go with isumi. but, i also love how the characters age, and hikaru by the end has become quite cool, too.
21 - your favourite female character:
probably Nase. but, there are a lot of good ones, even if they are all fairly minor... even Akari, i love. and Akiko, and hikaru's mom Mitsuko, and kaneko... ^_^;;;

allllllllllll of them! and Kuwabara. Kuwabara, and alllll of them!
